The Slender Man

28 - Poltergeist III

Synopsis: Carol Anne has been sent to Chicago to live with her aunt, uncle and uncle’s daughter. However, Kane has not given up on her yet.

Year/Country: 1988, USA

Subgenres: haunting, demons

Reason for watching: I had given up on the Poltergeist trilogy after the 2nd one being so horrible, but then a friend was telling me that this movie, years later, still has her freaked out by mirrors so I thought I’d give it a shot.

Highlights: The effects in this film were better than in the other two.

Lowlights: Too neat and clean an ending.

Rewatchabilty: maybe

Overall review: Not as good as the first one but not as bad as the second one.

What makes a movie scary isn’t what jumps out of the closet. It’s what might jump out of the closet. The blood, the gore and the noise of so many fright films miss the horrifying point: Movie watchers are far more convinced, instinctively, that what we don’t know will most assuredly hurt us.

27 - The Horde

Synopsis: A group of policemen descend on a gang’s hiding place bent for revenge. They are captured but an alliance must be made in order to survive the zombie apocalypse.

Year/Country: 2009, USA

Subgenres: zombies, apocalypse, gore

Reason for watching: horror movie fest w/ friends

Highlights: The fight between the female officer and a zombie in the kitchen. Intense stuff.

Lowlights: Not much plot - all zombies (which could be a highlight too I suppose).

Rewatchabilty: maybe

Overall review: A typical gory, zombie movie. Not bad, but nothing particularly special about it either.

26 - Heartless

Synopsis: Jamie, who was born with a heart shaped birthmark on his face and trailing down his arm, has dreamed of having a normal life. After a series of murders in his neighborhood, including his mother and his neighbor, he is offered just that…for a price.

Year/Country:  2009, UK

Subgenres: deal with the devil, twist ending

Reason for watching: horror movie fest w/ friends - Jim Sturgess and Noel Clarke (Mickey from Doctor Who) and the cheek bite in the trailer.

Highlights: Mickey, Wormtail, and Fleur Delacour…oh be still my geeky fangirl heart. Also, Belle, loved Belle in all her sparkly wonder.

Lowlights: The film got a little muddled at times.

Rewatchabilty: I would rewatch it just to try to figure it out.

Overall review: I actually enjoyed this movie. It was a bit silly at times but I thought it was engaging. I love how it leaves a lot up to interpretation.
