01 - Let Me In

Synopsis: 12 year old Owen is bullied at school, ignored at home and is generally pretty miserable until he befriends Abby, a “12ish” girl who moved in next door along with her father bringing a strange rash of deaths involving blood-drained corpses with them.

Year/Country: 2010, USA

Subgenres: Vampire, Vampire Romance, Creepy Kids

Reason for watching/first impressions: Saturn award for best horror film 2010. Streaming on Netflix. Been excited about its source material (Swedish film Let the Right One In) for some time but haven’t seen it. Takes place in New Mexico (!).

Highlights: Backseat killer! Glad, I don’t have a car so I don’t have to check my backseat after this.

Lowlights: Felt flat and predictable at times. Some of the attacks were too CGI-ed.

Rewatchabilty: A definite maybe, mostly I’m excited about seeing the original now.

Overall review: Love that it wasn’t afraid to make use of silence and that it didn’t force dialogue. Dark and eery with an interesting premise. A nice twist on the friendly vampire romance genre.
