Synopsis:Three teenage boys seek out a sex ad online but instead end up in the clutches of a violent, evangelical church set on punishing them. Eventually the FBI gets involved.
Year/Country: 2011, USA
Subgenres: torture, serial killers, religious fanatics, fbi
Reason for watching: I was really looking forward to this movie. I’m a longtime Kevin Smith fan, even though I haven’t really enjoyed his more recent films. I was really excited to see his take on the horror genre.
Highlights: Some great Kevin Smith dialogue.
Lowlights: Not really a horror film. The stand-off felt long but the ending felt really rushed. The “twist” felt really weird.
Rewatchabilty: not likely.
Overall review: I think Kevin Smith’s writing and direction really shines in movies like Clerks and Dogma. He is heavy on character and dialogue. This movie tried to have action and it just didn’t work.
